We at American Lens are profoundly sad to report this news. Bob Owens, the editor of BearingArms.com, has died at the age of 46.
His body was discovered at an intersection in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. Owens had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and according to police a gun was found near the body.
It appears initially that the gunshot was self-inflicted, although law enforcement would not confirm that yet and said an investigation is ongoing.
Bob Owens was well-known to many in new media and Second Amendment circles for over a decade.
Owens’ partner at BearingArms.com, Jenn Jacques, published a brief entry on the website about the tragedy and posted the following statement on Twitter.
I apologize, but this is all I have to say at this time. Please keep his family in your prayers. pic.twitter.com/a2rNJcrCXQ

Part of the entry mentions a GoFundMe set up for the family and asks the public respect the family’s privacy:
Many of you have been posting wonderful memories and shared stories you have of Bob. The pictures, tributes, and prayers are all much needed and appreciated. I know his family – particularly his daughter – is taking solace in the knowledge that he meant so much to so many of us.
A memorial has been set up on GoFundMe for Bob’s wife and daughters who are 9 and 17.
We are asking everyone to respect his family’s privacy during this most difficult time, and I’d like to personally remind everyone that what you write impacts more than just the stupid thread you’re writing on.
Please know that his family will be reading what you write and act accordingly.
On a personal note, I had interacted with Bob Owens but had never met him – even though he resided in the town next to mine. He was an ardent Second Amendment supporter and activist, strong new media personality and his presence will be sorely missed.
Jenn Jacques said it best, “we are diminished.”
