Video of FOX’s Tucker Carlson versus DNC’s Zac Petkanas has been making the rounds.
A sample of their exchanges goes like this:
Carlson: “There’s no biological anchor to sex anymore. It’s all determined by the individual. So my obvious question for you is, how do I know if a person’s male or female? Is there some absolute standard people have to meet to be male or female, other than what they say?”
Petkanas: “One’s gender identity is enough to show what gender they are.”
Petkanas flailed and stuttered about, desperately trying to dodge every question put to him. It was frustrating to watch at points, but overall it is very revealing. If Petkanas and his positions on transgenderism were a table, the table top would be on the floor because it has no legs to stand on.
Here’s the clip:
Pete Kaliner at WWNC has written about this exchange and how it gets to the heart of the House Bil 2 (HB2) debate in North Carolina. Here’s part of his article:
Q: Is there a biological anchor to determine sex?
Q: What is the standard, then, for determining sex?
A: It’s whatever a person claims to be. Your gender identity determines your gender.
Q: If I’m a scientist and I want to know if you are a man or a woman, how do I determine that?
A: You should ask a transgender person to help you on that.
Despite Petklanas’s protests, Carlson is asking legitimate questions that are usually unchallenged assumptions in the transgender debate. For example, there is no discussion about legal tests in North Carolina’s HB2 debate. I suspect that Petkanas’s inability to answer these questions is, in large part, why they are never examined.
As such, it’s instructive Petkanas was simply incapable of offering a standard to determine sex.
I should note here, that for purposes of this post I am conflating sex with gender because that is what the Obama Administration did in its reinterpretation of Title IX. I recognize that the argument mostly associated with transgenderism is that sex and gender are not the same thing.
Petkanas provides a standard that is solely determined within one’s own brain. This means there is no universal standard to determine sex.
This is radical.
Go read the rest . YES. It matters. Because if you deny the simple and scientific universal invariant of male and female, you can deny anything.
So who is this Petkanas guy, some of you might be asking at this point.
Well, just from the first few pages of a Google search, one can ascertain that Petkanas was (or still is) a Meth head. He was arrested for possession of methamphetamines in 2013 when he worked for Nevada Democrat Party.
He dumped a career in opera (yes opera) to take a stab into politics by volunteering for Howard ‘yeaaahawwww!’ Dean’s failed presidential campaign.
While a VP spin doctor at Media Matters, Petkanas admitted he had no idea who Marcus Luttrell was.
Right now, Petkanas is currently the Director of the new “war room” run by Donna Brazile.
