Trump Staff Salaries Nearly $3.5m Less Than Obama’s

Last week, the White House disclosed its staff salaries for the Trump Administration, including Kellyanne Conway, Senior Counselor and Assistant to the President.

Conway’s salary was listed at $179,700 and Gorka’s at $155,000. White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus is also making $179,700.

The salary of Senior Policy Adviser Mark House was the highest, standing at $187, 100.

The lowest paid stands at $30,000 and most assistants and support staff ranged from $47,000 to $57,000.

Neither Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner nor Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, are drawing a salary.

They are not the only ones employees listed at $0 for annual salary. The other employee is Reed Cordish, Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental and Tech Initiatives.

Cordish, a Baltimore real estate investor and developer, is one of the wealthiest of all Trump’s staff appointments. Cordish’s assets were valued at between $197.2 million and $424 million.

Trump’s Staff Salaries vs Obama’s Staff Salaries

Major media are running with headlines like CBS’s “More than 4 in 10 Trump White House staffers earn six-figure salaries” or CNN’s “22 Staffers earn the Max Salary.”

How does the Trump administration’s payroll compare to that of his predecessor?

In total, there were 377 employees listed in the report. That is 110 less than Barack Obama reported in 2009 who had 487.

Trump has three staffers who are not drawing a salary, versus 2 for Obama.

Trump’s salaries total $35,766,744. The total value of Obama’s first salaries disclosure came to $39,147,222.

President Trump’s total staff salaries came in $3,380,478 less than President Obama’s did in 2009. If that savings stays constant carries through all four years, the total savings will be between $13 and $14 million dollars.

Throwing out those who don’t draw a salary, President Obama had 146 out of 485 staffers making over $100,00 a year or roughly 30%, whereas 152 of the 374 Trump staffers make over $100,00 or roughly 45%.

Trump’s top paid is Senior Policy Adviser Mark House making $187, 100.

Also included in the top paid under Obama in 2009 were Jonathan Favreau, the head speechwriter and Obama’s body man, Reggie Love, who was earning $102,000. Both men were only 28 years old at the time.
